Logan Valley Sams – News
Logan Valley Sams met in April at Cottonwood campground near Yankton. Nine members were present. President Gary Uehling gave a report on the spring state meeting. Plans were made for the Samboree. On Tuesday we toured the visitor’s center at Gavin’s Point and ate supper at Murdo’s near the dam.
Our May meeting was held at Willow Creek State Recreation Area with 13 members present. President Gary Uehling presided at the business meeting. Plans were discussed for the Samboree. It was voted to give $25 each to Dogs For The Deaf and Special Olympics. Proceeds from the raffle table will also be given to Dogs For The Deaf. We will also give two $10 Wal-Mart gift cards for door prizes. Barb Uehling also discussed plans for a poster for the Samboree.
Roy Stohler announced that a coffee will be held at Concord for a former member, Frances Borg, who is back visiting from Texas. On Tuesday we went to Norfolk and visited the Johnny Carson Museum and the Fire Arts Museum. Supper was eaten at USA Steak Buffet.
Four rigs attended the State Samboree. Logan Valley Sams were responsible for the cribbage games and a raffle table. The chapter received first in the poster competition and received our 20 year award. We also received the Top Dog award with a contribution of $1,090.00 to Dogs for The Deaf.
The June meeting was held at a private lake belonging to one of our members. Ten members were in attendance. Three guests came to our pot-luck supper on Monday night.
The business meeting was presided over by President Gary Uehling. A report on the Samboree was given by Barb Uehling. Gary reported on a Special Olympics event to be held in 2010. Donations and volunteers are needed.
For an activity on Tuesday some members toured the RR museum in Council Bluffs and others toured a WWII museum near Ashland. Supper was eaten at Golden Corral in Lincoln.
