The regular meeting of Elkhorn Valley Sam camping club was held July 17, 2010 at Willow Creek State Recreation Area in Pierce, NE. What a beautiful campground. Between rain, heat, cool breezes and some cooler weather, we all enjoyed a great weekend. Our meeting was called to order by President Mary Bell. Nineteen rigs responded to roll call. The minutes were read and approved. Treasurers Report was given and approved.
Mary read a letter of thanks from the Special Olympics of NE for our support and contribution to them. The 2010 patches will be mailed to us soon. A letter from Larry and Judy Gitt was also read. They are leaving the club since their motor home is up for sale and at this time have indefinite plans in regard to future camping. They have enjoyed the club so much and will miss everyone and the fun they had.
Jan Rishoi reported that our August campout at the Wilds has been cancelled due to flooding and unfit conditions at their park. It was moved by Jim Cunningham to go to Victorian Acres in NE. City, seconded and carried. Reservations will be made for each one contacting Jan if they would like to go. No deposit is required at this time and it will cost $24.41/night with water and electric. Also an air conditioned clubhouse is available. Jan also would like everyone to contact her with three choices for next year’s camping locations. Please do this before the next meeting. Also remember that we need spots large enough to acommodate at least twenty rigs.
Old business: Mary thanked the Emkens and Hintzs for their woodworking items they made for the raffle at Samboree. She also thanked those who helped with the baskets that were used in the raffle. People averaged about $4-5 / person when they purchased tickets. Mary has a copy of the contract that Good Sams has with the Hastings facility for Samboree’s use. You may see her if you would like to read this. Enough can tabs were collected this year for the Ronald McDonald House to house a family for two weeks. Also Chet Bell was part of a committee to review the books of the State Good Sams organization. All seemed to be in order. Many fun games were played and music was provided two nights by Branson,Mo. groups.
New Business: Mary Bell stated that Carla Gries has been nominated for State Samboree President. It was moved by Pete Peterson to vote for Carla for State President, seconded, motion carried.
Four vests have been given to the club to be used by new members in the future. Anna Cassell donated two of these and she would like any money we receive for these to be donated to Special Olympics. It was moved to sell each vest for $15 (includes the vest and state patch). Motion carried. The secretary will keep these vests with her things.
Bonnie Brachle announced that she had lovely “goodie bags” from the Pierce Chamber of Commerce for every member attending our camp out this weekend. Sharon will write a thank you to the Chamber and also to Mrs. Jack Weber who was very gracious to collect the bags and also even delivered them to the campground for us.
It has been brought to all campers attention that the commissioners are proposing that alcohol consumption again be made legal in our state camping areas. A letter was written to our governor by Bonnie Brachle, which was read, and then passed around to all members. This letter was written against this proposal. Several signed this and it will be mailed to our governor.
It was announced by Linda Bontrager that our State Samboree Flag has been found. However, a new one had already been made, so now our club has two State Samboree Flags.
Discussion was held concerning displaying the Dogs for Deaf flags at each campout. Also , a thank you was given to all for again hanging their nameplate on our large camping sign.
Remember to keep your aluminum cans and plastic bottles for recycling. You can keep the tabs separate or leave them on the cans. If you remove the tabs, give them to Gerald Bontrager and the cans and bottles to Larry Hintz or Bob Rishoi.
Birthdays and anniversaries were honored.
Our next campout is in August at Victorian Acres in Ne. City. Hosts will be Beckmans, Rishois and Saunders.
Chet Bell won the drawing of $19. Hosts for this campout were Baers, Brachles and Broekemeirs, however Broekemeirs were unable to attend. We enjoyed coffee and goodies Fri. pm and singing around the campfire Fri. nite, serenaded by Bonnie. Potluck dinner with a steak fry was Sat. night with more singing and lots of laughter. Thank you to all who pitched in with setting up and clean up—the rains were coming again.
Jim Cunningham moved we adjourn

Cat’s Den Chronicle
Monthly Newsletter of the Wildcat Hills Good Sam Club
Your Humble Editor Speaks
I know, I know it isn’t official yet, but maybe by the time I get this out we will have a Charter. I am getting so excited that I just can’t wait. So, I thought I would put my energy into our new Chapter.

As you can see the job of Asst. State Director Is real tough.

Please print this newsletter and frame it under glass. The first issue is always valuable. I figure with inflation it will worth 10 cents in a few years.
The Ball Starts Rolling at The State Samboree
A few of us were in Hastings at The Nebraska State Samboree and we met with Fred Hatch our State Director, Carla Gries the incoming State Director and Dennis Butcher our Asst Director. They reviewed the Constitution and By-Laws and asked about a zillion questions and then helped us fill out the application for a Charter. Fred said it should be done in a couple weeks. I’ve been anxiously waiting for the news ever since.

I have a confession to make. Everyone praised me on the quality of the Constitution and By-laws for our new chapter. I accepted the praise and took all the credit. In truth the By-laws came from Bart’s notes that were from your input. Thank you to all of you for your help.
First Unofficial Meeting
We had our first official/unofficial meeting on Thursday evening, June 10th at the Bartow’s house. Jim had copies of the Constitution/ By-laws for everyone and Denny read it paragraph by paragraph. We had several questions that lead to a few changes and some things just had to be defined and or explained. We set the dues at $15.00 per year. We also decided that our campouts/meetings will be on the second week of the month so as not to interfere with the two other Chapters in the area.

Our group discussed the possibility of requesting a $25.00 loan from each Charter Member to help get things started. This would be refundable when we get solvent.

I made the corrections Friday morning to get the Bylaws to Tom and Bart who were leaving for Hastings on Friday afternoon. We are confident that next month we will have the Charter signing.
Happy Camping – Linda & Jim

Editor’s Notes
I need to make a correction to last month’s newsletter. I mistakenly said that Alvin and Ken made the camping arrangements for July. It seems that it was Dave Feagler and not Alvin that worked with Ken . My Bad – My apologies to both of you.
Our August campout/meeting will be Aug 20, 21 and 22 at AB Camping in Cheyenne, WY. Tom and Dot Walsh will host a carry in at 12:00 noon with our monthly meeting following at 1:00pm. Wagon master Alvin Banghart will lead a caravan over there on Friday morning. The caravan will depart from the old Sun Mart in Gering at 9:00am. I have attached directions from Gering with two routes. One is through Kimball and the other is through LaGrange, WY. There will be a Friday night dinner at the campground and a lot of people want to go to it. Please call Alvin and let him know if you will be at the campout and also the Friday night dinner.
We had our July highway cleanup on Saturday July 24th and I had the honor of Filling in for Cindy as the leader of the pack. We had the usual turn out and there was quite a large amount of trash. I assume it was from Oregon Trail Days because of the types of beverage containers we found. What has me upset with the whole picture is that we have the same people turning out for this every month. I understand that there are health issues with some members, however there are able bodied people in this chapter that need to step up and get out there and help. Cindy Banghart works hard to keep the highway clean up going and she needs your help. We need to see some fresh new faces out there on Saturday morning.
Some of our members are upset with Tom and Dorothy Walsh’s decision to have a Carry in Dinner
August 2010 Newsletter
at the campground at noon. I know some of us wanted to go to The Country Buffet for Supper and have the meeting at the restaurant. But the way I understand it the Hosts are responsible for deciding where and what time we have the meal and meeting. What is the big deal? They made their decision. Now live with it. You are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats.
As most of you know the Vances will not be re-newing our membership in Wagon Wheel Sams at the end of the year. That will leave the newsletter Editor’s position open. If you are interested in becoming the newsletter Editor, please contact Ken or the incoming President.
Campout/Meeting
Although we had 14 Rigs answer roll call we only had 7 at the campout. It is just as well because we suffered from severe electrical shortage. We all got through it and had a lot of fun. We had over stocked the ‘fridge with food and except for milk on my Cheerios and a glass of OJ it was all there when we got home. Friday night was supper at Grampa Chuy’s and since we no longer have a Burger King in Scottsbluff we headed over there on Saturday night. Friday night Harry and Charlene Case drove in pulling their brand new camping trailer. They picked it up in Casper and drove straight to Torrington. Congratulations to the Case family. Most of the week end was spent trying to find some shade and relaxing with friends.
The July 17th meeting was called to order at 1:10 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and Flag Salute.

Roll call was read with 14 rigs represented.

Mary and T Jones, friends of Dave and Sandy Feagler, were our guests.

The Minutes of the May meeting were read by Secretary Marilyn Petersen. Char Schanaman made a motion to accept the Minutes as read. Bonita Case seconded. Motion carried.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Treasurer Jim Vance, with a starting balance of $1533.03. After a deposit of $79.50, the ending balance was $1612.53. Motion was made by Betty Wilhelm to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Twilla McCarthy seconded. Motion carried. No bills were presented for payment.

Correspondence was received from Dogs for the Deaf and Special Olympics, thanking us for the donations.

Due to ill health, Carolyn Austin has stepped down from the nominating committee. Char Schanaman will fill in.

As of this date, the nominations are: Char Schanaman for President, Lurleen Adamson for Vice President, Marilyn Petersen for Secretary, Jeanette Schreiner for Treasurer, and LeRoy Schreiner for Wagon Master.

Wagon Master Alvin Banghart asked those present for a count of who is planning to camp in Cheyenne. He will be calling everyone else. For those who want to travel up together, we will be meeting at the old Sun Mart parking lot at 9:00 a.m.

Dave Feagler made a motion to donate $100.00 to a homeless couple staying at the fairgrounds. Doris Bartow seconded. Motion carried. Dave will deliver the money.

Betty Wilhelm thanked everyone for all the cards sent to George.

Our next scheduled cleanup will be July 24, 2010. We will meet at 7:00 a.m. at the RV Park.

It was decided that we would empty the can shed on Tuesday, July 20, at 9.00 a.m.

50/50 brought in a total of $58.00. $29.00 for the club, $14.50 won by Dorothy Walsh and $14.50 won by Ken Petersen.

The door prize donated by LeRoy and Jeanette Schreiner was won by Tom and Twilla McCarthy.

Birthdays and anniversaries were read.

Tom and Dorothy Walsh will host the August camp out. It will be pot luck.

A motion was made by Bobbie Baird to adjourn the meeting. Doris Bartow seconded. Meeting was adjourned at 1:40 p.m..

                   July 2010 Newsletter

The newsletter is early this month because we have a couple issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible.

First, there were a few members that are concerned that the camping at Goshen County Fair Grounds is too close together. The problem has been solved. Dave and Ken have been working with the people up there and we have 20 sites on the grass. They are wide enough to open your awning if you desire. The sites are electricity only (no water) with a cost of $15.00 per night. We also have the pavilion for the meal and meeting. Make your plans now. This is a pretty good deal. We’ll be there July 16th, 17th and 18th.

It has been brought to my attention that several of our Wagon Wheel Sams Newsletter Chapter members are upset
with my since of humor. I assure you that my comment about Alvin Banghart in the back of Harry’s truck was made in fun. I know that my comment was probably in bad taste, but you need to understand that a lot of what Alvin and I do is in bad taste. I talked to Alvin and he and Cindy thought it was funny. I also told him that if I didn’t like him I would not be making fun of him. We joined this Chapter to have fun, but it seems there are some of you that don’t like it when we are laughing and having a good time. To those of you who don’t like the way I do things, I’ll give you a quote from my dearly departed Father. “You can get glad in the same underwear you got mad in.” From now on it will be strictly business with no jokes or frills. Have a good day.

The June 19th meeting was called to order at 1:10 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and Flag Salute.

Roll call was read with 16 rigs represented.

We were honored to have Cindy Banghart’s mother, Marie Darnstaedt, Rich and Barb Kissler, Ron and Gail Ledesma and grandchildren, and Chet and Wanda’s grandson,Tucker as our guests.

The Minutes of the May meeting were read by Secretary Marilyn Petersen. Bart Bartow made a motion to accept the Minutes as read. Char Schanaman seconded. Motion carried.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Treasurer Jim Vance, Motion was made by Bart Bartow to accept the
Treasurer’s Report. Gene Fees seconded. Motion carried. No bills were
presented for payment.

Jim Vance read a wonderful letter from The Ronald McDonald House thanking the club for the donation.

President Ken Petersen asked for members to be on the nominating committee. Tom McCarthy, Sharon Gregory, and Carolyn Austin have volunteered.

After much thought and discussion, Tom McCarthy made a motion to have the July meeting at the Torrington Fairgrounds on the original date of July 17, 2010.
Doris Bartow seconded. Motion carried. Bart and Doris Bartow will host a potluck.

More discussion was had on the August 21st meeting. A decision was made to go to the AB Campground in Cheyenne.

Cindy Banghart gave a quick report on the highway cleanup. She informed us that our club would not be dropped from the program.

Our next scheduled cleanup will be June 26, 2010. Bart Bartow made a motion to meet at 7:00 a.m. at the RV Park. Doris Bartow seconded. Motion carried.

President Ken Petersen announced that Fred Hatch will be retiring as State Director this year. Carla Gries has been nominated to fill this position.

A short report was given on the 2010 Samboree. All who were able to attend, agreed that we had a fabulous time.

The 2011 Samboree will be held on June 9 through 12. The theme will be Treasure Island. It was also mentioned that the cost of going to the Samboree will be increased to $70.00.

50/50 brought in a total of $79.00. $39.50 for the club, $19.75 won by Marilyn Petersen and $19.75 won by Cindy Banghart.

The door prize donated by Jim and Linda Vance was won by LeRoy and Jeanette Schreiner..

Birthdays and anniversaries were read.

A motion was made by Bart Bartow to adjourn the meeting. Jeannie Fees seconded. Meeting was adjourned at 2:05 p.m..

June Newsletter

2010 First Highway Clean up

Our merry group of highway clean up professionals poses for a picture after picking up trash along Five Rocks Road.
We had a good turnout for our first highway cleanup of the year. After a long, cold and wet winter we had quite a haul. Harry and Clyde used their pickups to haul the big chunks. I even saw one big lump of trash in the back of Harry’s truck that looked like Alvin Banghart.

After we finished it was time for the usual picture with Gunner guarding the pile of trash. Someone said “I’m hungry.” A few of us had Saturday morning “honey dos” and headed home. The rest of us went to the Log Cabin Restaurant for breakfast. Biscuits and Gravy was flowin’ and our bellies were growin’. I think we should change our chapter name to Let’s Eat Sams. We’ll meet again next month.

May 2010 Meeting

Ken called the meeting to order after Dave and Leroy got back from a garage sale. After roll call with 15 rigs (yes, believe it or not some of us, including your editor and treasurer wimped out and drove up in our cars) in attendance, Kathy Gatch from Buckboard Therapeutic Riding Academy gave a presentation about what they have accomplished over the last year and their plans for the future. We had voted to donate $100.00 to them and presented it afterword.
After Jim gave the Treasurer’s report that left us with a balance of $3,698.87 he read a letter from The Special Olympics thanking us for the donation.

Cindy reported that she has signed a contract to do the highway cleanup again this year. The amount is $400.00 and the first cleanup is 8:00 am, May 22nd.

Because the State Samboree is in June, we had a few housekeeping items to take care of. $10.00 was donated to Special Olympics in memorial of each family member we lost in the past year. $50.00 was donated for door prizes at the Samboree.

Jim brought up the idea that since our chapter has a large account balance that we should clear out $2,000 by making additional donations to our charities’. After much discussion on the subject Tom McCarthy suggested we give $500.00 each to Ronald McDonald House, Buckboard Therapeutic Riding Academy, Dogs for the Deaf and Special Olympics. Tom made the motion and we all approved it. Needless to say Jim was busy with the check book.

Because we are in charge of parking at the State Samboree, Denny Butcher gave a quick talk on how, when and where.

It looks like we need to decide where to have our campout in July. Alvin reports that the campground in Lusk is full for that weekend.

We had some discussion on going to Cheyenne in August. As this is when we have our elections some of us wanted it closer to home. Tom McCarthy had to remind everyone that it has been voted on and approved by a majority vote. Tom also thanked everyone for the many cards, phone calls and visits. We need to keep Tom and Sue Shepherd in our thoughts and prayers.

Because someone forgot the tickets, we did not have a 50/50 this month. We did, however, have a door prize. The door prize that was donated by Dennis and Sharon Gregory was won by Jim and Linda Vance. Thanks Dennis and Sharon. We are already enjoying the prizes.

The June campout will be at Fort Robinson with Gene and Jeannie Fees as our host with the pot luck at 12:00 noon and the meeting following at 1:00pm. We will be in the same area as last year. See you there.

June Birthdays
Betty Jo Kreman – 5

Leroy Schreiner – 6

Charlene Case – 14

Marilyn Petersen – 22

Sharon Gregory – 25

Happy Birthday to all of you

June Anniversaries

Larry & Lurleen Adamson – 4

Harry & Bonita Case – 10

George & Betty Wilhelm – 12

Happy Anniversary

That’s all for this month. See you in Hastings and at Fort Rob.

Happy Camping,

Linda and Jim
